Jaykayelle Jet β A Mare That Built a Legacy
Some horses play the game.
Some horses define an era.
βJaykayelle Jetβ did both.
The Mareβs Playing Career
By Australian Stock Horse stallion Roseridge Box Office out of Pee Wee (unregistered ASH), Jaykayelle Jet was home bred β and that foundation shaped everything that followed.
Originally played by Graeme Jolly, who later gifted her to Katie Martin (the βbest gift everβ), Jet became a true family mare. Over the years she was ridden by:
Graeme Jolly
Katie Martin
Jared Martin
Buster Jolly
Kylie Jolly
Kelly Armstrong
Lance Anderson
Kenny Grimmond
Jake Jolly (subbies)
Scarlett Jolly (subbies)
Skyla Armstrong (subbies)
Levi Martin (subbies β current rider)
She wasnβt just one riderβs horse β she was everyoneβs.
Nationals Appearances
Jet competed at multiple Australian Polocrosse Nationals across more than a decade:
β’ 2004 Albury β Masters Mixed (Graeme Jolly) β as a 4-year-old
β’ 2006 Camden β Open Menβs (Lance Anderson)
β’ 2008 Perth β Open Womenβs (Katie Martin)
β’ 2010 Ballarat β Open Womenβs (Katie Martin)
β’ 2012 Warwick β Open Womenβs (Katie Martin)
β’ 2014 Darwin β Open Womenβs (Katie Martin)
β’ 2016 Albury β Open Menβs (Jared Martin)
While she didnβt take home Nationals awards, her consistency and longevity at that level speaks louder than any trophy.
On the Field
Her best position? Out the back.
Built βlike a keg on legs,β she was:
β’ Fast
β’ Soft as butter
β’ Strong
β’ Tough
But above all β she had stamina.
Jet always had legs in the last chukka. She gave every single game and always finished a weekend.
A standout moment? Watching Jared play her in the Menβs at Albury β and seeing their son debut on her in subbies. Thatβs more than a highlight. Thatβs heritage.
Her Progenyβs Nationals Success
Jet didnβt just perform β she reproduced.
Jaykayelle Swift (Jaykayelle Jet x Minstril II)
β’ Nationals: Albury 2016, Perth 2018, Darwin 2026
β’ Teams: VIC Womenβs, VIC Menβs, QLD Mixed
β’ Position: 2 & 3
β’ Highlights:
o Multiple horse awards
o VIC State Champs Perpetual Trophies 2016
o Australian State Champs 2023
The Minstril cross produced the fastest horse theyβve bred β electric, but high strung, perfect combo for the game.
Jaykayelle Flight (Jaykayelle Jet x Stonebrook Finno)
β’ Nationals: Ballarat 2022, Darwin 2026
β’ Teams: VIC Womenβs, QLD Womenβs
β’ Position: 2 & 3
β’ Highlight: Best Ladies ASH at QLD State Champs 2025
The Finno cross? Gentle like her mum. Kid-friendly. Tough.
The Legacy Connection
Jet has produced seven βJet babiesβ β five fillies:
β’ Swift
β’ Blaze (by Hawthorne Rush) β owned by Andrea Bond (TAS)
β’ Flight
β’ Delta (by Pin Up) β owned by Kelly & Tyson Armstrong
β’ PRIA (by JH Concussion)
β’ Maverick (by Mewburn Bewick) β retained colt
β’ Sierra (by Doolapartnership Expresso) β βthe last oneβ
And now her daughters are breeding too.
What Did She Pass On?
β’ Temperament
β’ Sensibility to break in
β’ Trainability
β’ Toughness
β’ Good doing types (they love their tucker!)
Each one slightly different in style β but all carrying that Jet backbone.
Has her progeny surpassed her?
Not yet. And matching her will be a tall order. But the opportunity is there.
The Broodmare Story
Jet exceeded every expectation in the breeding paddock.
Embryo transfer allowed her to keep playing while producing β and once her young stock started under saddle, it became clear: there were serious genetics here.
She wasnβt just a good producer.
She was exceptional.
What makes her story even more special is that she was home bred by Dad, kept in the family, and became a cornerstone for the next generation. Sheβs a mare theyβll never replace β but through her daughters, her legacy continues.
Final Reflections
When you look back at her journey from Nationals player to Nationals producer, what stands out most is just how incredible she was performance-wise β especially for Katie. She was her main mare for so many years and stood up time and time again at the highest level. She was also exceptional for Jared when he rode her, and now seeing what she has given the kids in the family makes it even more special.
There are definitely moments we wish she was still on the truck competing at that level β but watching her carry the next generation has been just as rewarding (even if we sometimes miss having her to ourselves!).
A real goosebumps feeling comes from watching her progeny step onto the big stage and perform. Seeing them carry her traits, her toughness and her presence in their own way reminds us that her influence is far from finished.
If you could sum up her impact in one sentence?
She always performed, always stood up when it counted, and always finished a weekend.
One word that defines her legacy?
