๐ฐ Media Coverage at Carnivals โ A Quick Thought ๐
We all love seeing our carnivals featured in the local paper or picked up by journalists โ itโs fantastic exposure for our clubs, our players and the sport we all love ๐
A great recap article sharing how the weekend unfolded, the results, the atmosphere and the community spirit is something really special.
Butโฆ have we ever stopped to think about the photos that go along with those stories?
๐ธ Are the photographers familiar with horses?
๐ธ Do they understand polocrosse and the speed of the game?
๐ธ Do they know that sometimes there are those โohh momentsโ that donโt need to be shared publicly?
Horses or riders caught in awkward or unfortunate situations might be part of the game โ but they donโt always paint our sport in the best light, especially to those outside of it.
๐ While media exposure is incredibly important, how our sport is represented matters just as much.
As clubs and committees, it might be worth:
โข Having a quick chat with journalists/photographers beforehand
โข Supplying a small selection of approved images
โข Or even recommending an equine photographer who understands the sport
Letโs keep promoting polocrosse โ but letโs make sure weโre showcasing it in a positive, professional and respectful way ๐
Because first impressions countโฆ and we want people to see just how great this sport really is.
