This week EP heads to Queensland to feature Gold Coast Polocrosse Club
Club Name: Gold Coast Polocrosse Club
Location: Killarney, QLD
Established: 1967
Big Milestone: Celebrating 60 years in 2027
Current Members: 91
Grades: All grades
The club describes itself as “a family-like community” — one where everyone supports one another and there is always a cheer squad on the sidelines whenever possible.
What makes your club special or unique?
The culture. Gold Coast Polocrosse Club is proudly built on strong community values, sportsmanship and a passion for developing the next generation of players.
They are fortunate to have a number of respected and high-profile players within the club who generously give their time, knowledge and experience to coach and support up-and-coming members.
What does a typical polocrosse weekend look like?
For Gold Coast, it’s all about camping together, playing, umpiring, watching fellow club members’ games, then doing it all again.
They generally have a club spot where everyone joins for nibbles, drinks and chats, while also supporting other clubs by heading to the bar and catching up with friends.
Where do you play?
The club’s home grounds are at Killarney, QLD, which they share with the Killarney Polocrosse Club.
Facilities include:
Fields
Yards
Camping
Canteen/bar
Great shower and toilet block
They are thankful to everyone who helps continue to maintain the grounds and keep them ready for play.
Gold Coast Carnival is NEXT WEEKEND — 23rd & 24th at Killarney!
Mark it on your calendars — we surely have after reading this profile!
How many volunteers help keep the club running?
Gold Coast has 8 key executive members who take care of the day-to-day running of the club, but they are very fortunate that all members volunteer at their annual carnival.
From preparing the grounds, running the bar and canteen, keeping facilities clean and helping with general carnival duties — it really is a full club effort.
Volunteer Shoutout:
A special shoutout goes to Rusty, the Club Captain.
Rusty is described as a true GC supporter and member, donating so much of his time to ensure the grounds are safe and ready to play. He is always one of the first to put his hand up for any task, big or small.
Cheers Rusty!!
Is your club family-friendly?
Absolutely.
Gold Coast strongly encourages members to invite their family, friends and work colleagues along to watch and enjoy the sport.
They believe polocrosse creates wonderful opportunities for people to connect, build friendships and become part of a welcoming community atmosphere.
The club has seen children involved in polocrosse thrive not only in their riding and sporting abilities, but also socially and personally — building confidence, teamwork, respect, responsibility and strong values.
And how good is this — mum, dad, kids and even grandkids have all played in the same team.
If that’s not family-friendly, what is?
What grades do your members compete in?
Gold Coast members compete across all grades — from mini juniors, juniors and the new Fun Grade, right through to A Grade.
They also have a strong representation of women in the club competing and succeeding at a high level within the sport.
Proud achievements or milestones?
The club is very proud of members who have made Australian, Queensland and Zone teams.
Taking out the win at their home carnival for the Gold Racquet Trophy was also a great win for the club.
They are also extremely proud of their GC members who will be representing Australia in July.
Favourite club tradition?
Their end-of-year “funny trophies” are always a hit, creating plenty of laughs and adding to that family-like atmosphere.
How does your club support the local community?
Gold Coast is passionate about supporting local businesses by purchasing local produce, bakery items and carnival stock locally.
They have also assisted the Killarney Rec Club with fundraisers.
What’s the club vibe like off the field?
Everyone gets along and is happy to help out any club member.
Friday and Saturday nights around the fire are a club favourite — with plenty of laughs, games and, as they put it, A Grade nibbles.
Is your club open to new members?
Absolutely! Gold Coast Polocrosse Club loves when people apply to join and encourages anyone interested to come along, watch and experience the sport.
Polocrosse is a fantastic spectator sport, with games played over short halves, making it easy and exciting to follow.
