Horse Profile | Obriens Trendsette (aka โBugsy Girlโ)
Some horses are remembered for their power. Others for their presence. Bugsy Girl is remembered for her heart โ tiny in stature, enormous in character, and impossible to forget.
Horse Snapshot
Horse Name: Obriens Trendsette
ASH Reg: #234598
Breeding: By OโBrienโs Resette out of Ivanhoe Folli
Owner & Rider:
Bugsy Girl has only ever been played by Ella Myers, forming a true one-horse partnership.
Where did she come from?
Purchased from Gerald OโBrien in 2017, a decision that turned into much more than a sale. Gerald has continued to help and support ever since โ right from day one.
Why This Horse Stood Out
Bugsy Girl didnโt just play polocrosse โ she lived for it. From the moment she stepped on the field, she wanted to be right in the middle of the action, taking on the opposition with attitude and enthusiasm.
The moment Ella realised she was something special came during the 2019 Junior Test Series, where Bugsy played every position in a single game. It didnโt matter where she was put โ she loved it all.
Her biggest strength?
The chip and chop of the game. Her small size only added to her agility, allowing her to zip, turn, and out-think much bigger horses.
Best Position:
Number 1. Her size made her perfect for a more contact-style game, darting around the number 3 with speed and cleverness.
โLet Me On That One!โ
Bugsy Girl quickly became one of those horses everyone wanted a go on. Why?
She had exceptional handle, undeniable grit, and a whole lot of personality packed into a little body.
The most common comment heard on the sideline?
โHow is she so small?!โ โ usually followed by disbelief at how much heart she had.
One of the most special moments came when Lauren & Islay Young were able to sit their little Ella on her. Despite her competitive nature, Bugsy was a true sweetheart โ a kidsโ pony with a lionโs heart.
Ride & Care
Bugsy Girl was always a dream to play. She was the horse you wanted to get on โ no instructions needed; she just knew her job.
At home, however, she had her quirks. Keeping her fit enough to compete at the highest level took dedication, especially given her size. But every bit of effort was worth it.
The Memories
Most Memorable Moment:
The 2021 QLD State Championships, where she proved she could compete with the very best.
Three Words to Describe Her:
Tiny. Clever. Sassy.
Why is she still talked about today?
Because people remember a horse that looked like a kidsโ pony but matched it with the biggest horses on the field โ heart for heart.
Progeny:
No foals yet, but embryos are being investigated.
Where is she now?
Bugsy Girl is retired, much like Ella herself, but sheโll be getting back into other disciplines โ because a horse like that never truly stops.
Some horses win games. Others win respect. Bugsy Girl did both โ and she did it her way.
